Data consist of thunderstorm beginning and ending times in a 24-hour clock format for 450 stations for the general period January 1, 1948 through December 31, 1977. A number of the stations data begin prior to 1948 ensuring an adequate period of record for remote locations. Storm times were extracted from the original manuscript Weather Service, Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Navy stations. For locations with data taken during the 1942-1945 period, the times were converted from war-time to Local Standard Time.
