NOTES for NEXRAD Level 2 Dump Utility ------------------------------------- Level2Dump is a Java-based tool to dump selected header and/or radial data from NEXRAD Level 2 format records. By default all output is to standard output. However, if an output file is selected from the Output File menu, then output is directed to a file instead. To run this tool use the following command from the directory containing the class files contained in this archive. % java Level2Dump The main menu panel contains 3 tabbed panes: Set Window, Header Fields, and Radial Data. The Set Window tabbed pane contains selections to define a radial or group of radials for processing by azimuth and elevation number. In a typical volume scan, radials are ordered by azimuth and elevation numbers. The first azimuth in a cut has an azimuth number of 1 and the first cut in a volume has an elevation number of 1. So, if you wanted to, say, display selected header information for all radials in a particular cut you would set the first azimuth number to 1 and the last number to some value greater than the number of radials typically found in a cut (i.e., 366). The Header Fields tabbed pane contains a list of all header fields found in a level 2 radial record. Radio buttons associated with each field can be toggled on/off. Once the desired group of fields are activated, processing can be activated by selecting the Dump Headers button (assuming that an input file has already been selected from the File menu). The Radial Data tabbed pane contains a selection to define one of the moments for display. Selecting the Dump Radial button results in the contents of each gate in the defined set of radials to be output (assuming an input file has already been selected) for the selected moment. To sselect an input level 2 file you select "Level II File" from the File menu. If you want output directed to a file you should select Output File from the File menu.
